Next Ubuntu LTS Release in 2008

The next long-term support Ubuntu release will arrive in April 2008. Like Ubuntu 6.06, Ubuntu 8.04 will be supported for 3 years on the desktop and 5 years on servers.

Mark Shuttleworth has just announced during his keynote at Ubuntu Live 2007 that the next Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) release will be Ubuntu 8.04. This will be the first LTS release since Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake. Mark had went on to add that Canonical is committed to delivering a new LTS release every two years. Ubuntu 8.04 will be out in April of 2008.

As usual, I guess we will not find out the name until after Gutsy is released. Will it be an “H” name, or will it skip to “I” because of the previous 5.04 “Hoary Hedgehog” release?
