The next testing release of Ubuntu 7.10 “Gutsy Gibbon” should be out on Thursday. These are some of the new features that will be included:
- Gnome 2.19.6
- ConsoleKit and fast-user-switch-applet
- tracker by default
- KDE 4 beta 1
Most notable is that the Tracker search tool is included by default. Tracker is often preferred because it is lightweight, fast, and indexes many file formats. Tracker-by-default means that Ubuntu will no longer lack the quick search tools included in the latest versions of Windows and MacOS.
