Compiz Keyboard Shortcuts in Ubuntu 10.04

I couldn’t find much information about keyboard shortcuts for Compiz effects in Ubuntu 10.04. I poked through the default Compiz configuration and found some I didn’t know about, and some that have changed from previous versions of Ubuntu.

Some of the following keyboard shortcuts will not work at all if Compiz (visual effects) if turned off.

Workspaces

Window Management

Accessibility

Ubuntu Community Documentation has more on keyboard shortcuts (although some of it is outdated now for Ubuntu 10.04). You can view and change some shortcuts using System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts.

Installing compizconfig settings manager lets you enable/disable the various plugins (desktop zoom, for example) and change ALL of the keybindings.

It *is* a wiki! :)

If it’s inaccurate, not up to date or in any way less than you expect then you can just logon and click “edit” to make it better.

The documentation you refer to is a wiki. Why not login and edit it with the changes you have described, instead of blogging about it in a non-centralised place that is completely unhelpful to Ubuntu users?

I had a command set up to run a gnome-terminal window and executing a bash command for Ctrl-9 using a special keyboard shortcut. I am pretty sure it still worked after I installed Lucid. Now it doesn’t. I can still run the command from the shell and it works and the short cut is stll listed in Keyboard Shortcuts. Any ideas?

+ there are the Grid keybindings to resize windows. Not sure if the Grid plugin is enabled by default though.

Super+M doesn’t work on 10.04, it opens the mail/chat indicator thing instead.

Super+S does the shutdown menu.

David

Right, and I’d love to undo this trapping of Super+M and Super+S, however no one seems to know how to do it.

Thanks a lot. Great short cuts. Do you know the shortcut for volume control?

john

Great someone has actually blogged about the changes and the new key actions.

I am an ubuntu user and found this blog- and it was a lot easier than trolling through the mess that is ubuntu’s wiki.

I appreciate any info regarding Ubuntu even it is scattered around the Web. Nevertheless, central place for latest information on Ubuntu should be found on Ubuntu wiki by the help of Ubuntu community. If it’s not updated anybody can edit and correct it. This is what Ubuntu means.

About shortcuts, wiki page is here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KeyboardShortcuts#Desktop%20Effects%20enabled%20shortcuts

Is there a shortcut to move window to the next monitor/screen? Like Win + Left/Right in Win7?

david

@Jay: try Ctrl+Alt+arrow keys (left, right, up, and down, depending on how your virtual desktops are arranged)
