Installing the Slim Glow Plasma Theme in KDE 4.0

If you’re not a fan of the large borders on the default KDE 4.0 Plasma theme, you’re in luck. The first themes for Plasma are starting to appear. Here’s how to install the new Slim Glow theme in KDE 4.0:

Slim Glow theme

  1. Create a folder called desktoptheme in ~/.kde4/share/apps/, if it does not already exist.
  2. Download the Slim Glow theme and extract it to ~/.kde4/share/apps/desktoptheme.
  3. Open the ~/.kde4/share/config/plasmarc file in a text editor. Change the line name=default to name=slim-glow. This tells Plasma which theme to use.
  4. Log out and back in to KDE to restart Plasma, and the new theme should take effect.

A few other Plasma addons are available in the Plasma category at KDE-Look.

[update] And here’s another new Plasma theme I’m sure everyone will want.

Hi! Nice post :-)
You can also restart plasma without relogging…
Just kill it…

killall plasma && plasma &

Anonymous

Well, this doesn’t work for me

Hello, you can also download and install themes automatic via the rightclick on desktop > desktop settings and then Install theme. All the theme’s from KDE-look. Slim Glow’s there too ;-) That’s the easy way.
