The planned features to be included in Ubuntu 7.10 “Gutsy Gibbon” have been finalized and announced today. Most of the features are minor because of the usual 6 month release plan which will result in a final release in October. Here is a summary:

  • latest version on GNOME
  • compositing window manager by default with Metacity as a fall back
  • 2.6.22 Linux kernel
  • Xorg 7.3, RandR 1.2, xserver 1.4
  • some winmodems will be supported
  • mobile and Embedded edition
  • AppArmor security framework for servers
  • functionality with a full filesystem
  • Upstart 0.5
