Intel Q965 Graphics With Open Source Drivers

Intel’s integrated graphics are great for Linux users because of their open source drivers. But how does the performance compare to ATI and NVIDIA cards?

Intel’s integrated graphics solutions remain a viable option for those that care about the freedoms of open-source software and still would like to benefit from desktop eye candy through Beryl or Compiz and have X-Video playback capabilities.

The review compares the Intel Q965 to the ATI Radeon X800XL, with the open-source driver, and the NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT, with the proprietary driver. The benchmarks tested were Enemy Territory, Unreal Tournament 2004, and SPECViewPerf.
